POEM SUMMARY: TO CELIA

     TO CELIA:

POET-- BEN JOHNSON

EVERYONE OF US WHO LIKES LITERATURE HAS ALWAYS LIKED TO JUMP INTO THE VALLEY OF POEMS AND ROW HIS BOAT THROUGH ALL THE POEMS WRITTEN BY ALL THE WORLD'S BEST WRITERS.

TO CELIA IS ALSO A POEM AS WELL AS A SONG WRITTEN BY THE WORLD RENOWNED POET BEN JOHNSON. "TO CELIA", WRITTEN IN 1616 ROCKED THE WORLD BY ITS ROMANTICISM AND HELPED THE PEOPLE TO TOUCH THEIR HEART WITH ROMANCE. IT INDICATES THE TRUE MEANING OF ROMANCE THAT BEN FELT FOR HIS BELOVED.

THE FIRST FOUR LINES:

Drink to me only with thine eyes,

         And I will pledge with mine;

Or leave a kiss but in the cup,

         And I’ll not look for wine.

IT INDICATES BEN JOHNSON SAYING TO HIS BELOVED THAT IS SHE ACCEPTS HIS LOVE AND FEELS HIM WITH HIS EYES, PERMITS HIM TO LOSE AND SURRENDER HIMSELF IN THE ABYSS LOVE OF HER EYES, HE WILL CEASE DRINKING WINE. FOR THE POET, THE GREATEST INTOXICATION WAS THE LOVE OF HIS BELOVED AND HE WOULD STOP DRINKING WINE SINCE HE WOULD BE ABOVE THE PHYSICAL INTOXICATION OF THE DRINKS HAVING ATTAINED THE SPIRITUAL LOVE.

THE NEXT FOUR LINES:

The thirst that from the soul doth rise

         Doth ask a drink divine;

But might I of Jove’s nectar sup,

         I would not change for thine.

 HE SAYS THAT THE THIRST THAT RISES FROM MY SOUL WILL ASK THE DIVINE DRINK DRANK BY THE ROMAN GOD OF THE THUNDER AND THE GOD OF GODS( JOVE ) BUT HE WON'T BREAK HIS PLEDGE FOR HIS BELOVED AND WILL NOT DRINK WINE.

THE NEXT FOUR LINES SAY:

I sent thee late a rosy wreath,

         Not so much honoring thee

As giving it a hope, that there

         It could not withered be.

THE LINES INDICATE THAT THE POET FELT HIS MISTAKE LATELY AND AS A TOKEN OF APOLOGY HE, SENT HIS BELOVED A WREATH OF ROSE WHICH WAS ALTHOUGH LATE. BEING LATE, IT DID NOT HONOR HIS BELOVED MUCH WITH HIS LOVE BUT IT REACHED THERE WITH A HOPE OF BEING ACCEPTED, TAKEN CARE OF AND HENCE NOT WITHERED ( ROTTEN OR STALE BECAUSE OF NOT GETTING GOOD CARE ). THE POET PRAYED OF THE ROSY WRETAH ALONG WITH HIS LOVE TO BE ACCEPTED.

THE NEXT FOUR LINES SAY:

But thou thereon didst only breathe,

And sent’st it back to me;

Since when it grows, and smells, I swear,

         Not of itself, but thee.

THESE LINES MEAN:

THE POETS BELOVED DID NOT ACCEPT THE ROSY WREATH, SMELT AND JUST RETURNED IT COLSING THE DOOR FOR HIS LOVE. BUT THE POET TAKES CARE OF THE ROSES AND ALLOWS THEM TO GROW AS HE STILL LOVES HIS BELOVED AND WILL CONTINUE TO LOVE HER AS HE DID NOT BELIEVE IN THE MORTAL LOVE THAT PEOPLE SHARED UNTIL THEIR HEART WAS BEATING WITHIN THEIR CHEST. HE BELIVED IN THE SPIRITUAL LOVE THAT CONTINUED FOREVER AND NEVER WITHERED AS THE LOVE SHARED BY LORD KRISHNA AND WRADHA, AS SHARED BY GODESS SITA AND LORD RAMA. THE RIOSES GREW BUT DID NOT SMELL OF THEM BUT HAD THE FRAGRANCE OF THE POETS BELOVED WHO SMELLED THE ROSES AND REJECTED THEM.
